MEATS STORE FRONT SMITHFIELD MEAT MARKET CLOCK SMITHFIELD MEAT MARKET In 1983 David Alford, who already owned and ran a Delicatessen shop in Farringdon Road and Peter Ford, who had spent many years working in Smithfield, decided to join forces and open a Delicatessen wholesale business on Smithfield Market. In September of that year they secured a stall and started trading as D. P. Meats. Within months they realized they had a thriving business, concentrating on quality goods at competitive prices, an ideal that still holds strong today. Within a year they became a limited company, Alford & Ford Ltd. and acquired a ham factory, producing top quality ham for sale on Smithfield. They also opened another outlet in Barking, Essex packing their own bacon and selling retail to the Public. As trade increased D. P. Meats moved position on the market to bigger premises, enabling them to expand their business which was going from strength to strength, and continues to expand to this day. Nearly 30 years later, having firmly established a successful business on Smithfield Market, D. P. Meats now sources internationally, allowing them to expand their range of products, ensuring they are able to meet the current demand of their customers for variety and the best quality. D. P. Meats counts among their customers a variety of businesses, including Hotels, Airlines, Caterers, Butchers and Van sales. They also retail to the Public.
